Awesome August

During the first two weeks of August, we had an awesome time enjoying more of our summer.
We had lots of fun with friends over at our house for different play dates. Tanner really likes having friends over one at a time. He also likes being charge of how and what to play. It’s been hilarious watching him learn how to let others come up with ideas. I know I was the same way as a kid, and I bet my mom had the same laughs and sighs that I am having watching Tanner struggle with this.
These two little buddies are drawing up emergency plans for attack if robbers and bad guys come to their homes.
We got our basement bed and bath listed on Air B&B! We charge $50 a night, and in August, we averaged one guest per week at our home. It has been a great way to get some extra cash, meet new people, and make use of the space in our basement. It has also been good motivator to keep our house clean, which I actually really appreciate. The guests reserve our home on nights that we make available. We don’t make them breakfast, but we do allow them to use space in our fridge and use anything in our kitchen. Everyone that has stayed with us are on cross-country road trips, usually going between Chicago and California. So far, we’ve had raving reviews from all our guests and have really enjoyed them as well!
I taught music camps in August, morning and evening classes for essentially 10 days straight. It was very busy for me, but also really fun. Jeremy came to the evening class with the boys. The classes are held at the Hormel Historic Home. One night in music class, Jeremy got a picture of his legs compared to Tanner’s legs. It’s a good thing that Tanner ended up being tanner!
One night after class, there was a concert out in the garden. We watched a bit of it before going home.
Every morning, this little bug and I cuddle.
Jeremy worked really hard to get his black Subaru legacy ready to sell.
After a bunch of work, he got it sold! Now we are a one-car family. We are excited to reduce our carbon footprint and put the extra money in savings. Jeremy has been riding his bike all over town since April, and he is prepared with the proper gear to ride his bike in the winter. He’s very excited about all the exercise he gets every day. It takes him 12-15 minutes to ride to work, it is a little over 4 miles one way. He really enjoys it!
We took a day trip to Mystery Caves, about an hour east of us. On the country roads, Jeremy decided to take a picture cuz the sky was really beautiful.

The boys LOVED the cave tour. They liked whispering and exploring, wondering what we would see next. We learned a lot even thought we’ve been to the cave before. We managed to get some pictures of the special pool of water, but no pictures of us.

On the way home, we decided to show the boys how big all the corn fields have gotten (our town is in the middle of corn fields). So tall!

One evening, I made lasagna and salad with tomatoes and cucumbers from our garden, and the only apple from our apple tree. Our garden hasn’t reaped that much this year, thanks to rabbits, Japanese beetles and field mice, so I was surprised to get this much.

Enjoying our front porch swing is an every day occurrence!
Walk to the park behind our house.
Dallin dressed himself.
Tanner planned a surprise party for me! No reason, just because he wanted to surprise me. Jeremy wrote down all of Tanner’s plans. They made cookies and got everything set up while I was gone on errands. When I came home with Dallin, they said “surprise!” We played pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, worm races, dance party and ate cookies!

I was pretty tickled to pieces by my little party planner. It was really fun to see him so excited about everything we were doing.

Here’s some artwork from earlier this year. I don’t know which one is Tanners and which one is Dallin’s.
Little love bug on his way to a nap. Once again, touching the mole on my cheek.
We enjoyed a little bit of the county fair. The boys loved this ride. Thanks to the work of a friend, they got to enjoy a free day here and even got a goodie bag!
Tanner was super excited to be at the front.
Dallin is in the white barrel.
The boys went on an overnight camping trip with Daddy. I stayed home to clean, be alone, and get some projects done.
A couple of mornings we went to the park before school lunch.
Another day at the fair, we got to see all the animals!
Dallin wanting to pick up the baby chickens, Tanner watching from a safe distance.
We rode the SPAMTown Belle on east side lake one Saturday evening. It was really fun!
I was just as excited as the boys were!
We enjoyed a Sunday BBQ at the Gabrielson’s home!
Jeremy has been working out really hard for a weightlifting competition. The boys help give their support by drinking protein smoothies and muscle milk with him.
