Our family had a BLAST celebrating the week-long festivities for the 125th Anniversary of Hormel Foods. During the last week of July, the fun went from Sunday evening to Friday evening. First, we enjoyed a free concert in the garden of the Hormel Historic Home.
One Monday, our first Air B&B guests arrived (more about Air B&B in the next blog post). Our guests turned out to be the program managers of the Spamerican Tour, and so they ended up parking the Spam Truck on our driveway!!! I was so star-struck!
I wore different Hormel clothes every day of the week.
We had fun doing the food truck frenzy. There was 2 hours to find several Hormel food trucks in town, and get a selfie in front of each one, then enter a drawing on facebook with our pictures. We did the frenzy with Leighsa and her girls.
Then the big day came, where they closed off a bunch of streets downtown and set up all kinds of fun! We sold SPAM cookies at the Hormel Home for an hour or two and then went to enjoy the rest of the festivities all afternoon and evening.
The boys painted self portraits!
And got lots of free food from the different food tents.
We played in the Spam Museum that had it’s grand opening ceremony on this day.
And then Tanner and Jeremy got snagged by a film crew!
I found a bunch of friends visiting from Guatemala, in conjunction with Project Spammy!
We enjoyed various concerts, they had stages set up in three different places!
Got a glimpse of this celebrity chef!
Ate more free food!
Played at the park waiting for the Band Perry to perform.
Dallin was in a dancing mood!
The band had a cool performance, but the kids didn’t really care. We played on the playground until the firework show started. Woo hoo!! I was really glad they did fireworks so that they boys could have an experience seeing fireworks this summer. And it was a good firework show!
The more I learn about George A Hormel, his family and his food company, the more proud I am to be a part of his legacy! It was an awesome week celebrating all the good that this town (and the world) experiences thanks to Hormel Foods. I’m so happy to be a Hormel wife, a board member of the Hormel Historic Home, and (am I really saying this!?) a citizen of Austin, MN! #iloveSPAMtownusa
